Mumbai One App Launches Successfully with Over 27,000 Users Registered in Just 12 Hours

The Mumbai One app, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, registered over 27,000 users within the first 12 hours. This innovative mobile application simplifies public transport ticketing across various modes in Mumbai.

In a significant development for Mumbai's commuters, over 27,000 users registered on the Mumbai One app within 12 hours of its launch. This mobile application, operational from Thursday morning, allows users to book a single QR-based digital ticket for various public transport modes, including Metro, Monorail, buses, and local trains. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the app on Wednesday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) developed the app, which was available for download from 5 am on Thursday. By 4:30 pm, more than 30,000 downloads had occurred. Sanjay Mukherjee, MMRDA's metropolitan commissioner, highlighted that this is the first integrated app for multiple transport modes in the city.

Features and Future Plans of Mumbai One

Mumbai One serves as an aggregator for various transport services and will evolve with new metro or ferry services. Discussions are underway to include app-based taxi services like Ola and Uber. Although return tickets are not currently available due to bus arrival uncertainties, this feature may be added later.

The app is managed by Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL), with a dedicated control room at Wadala to address passenger complaints. Mukherjee noted that while the app has minimal glitches, it remains a work in progress. He also mentioned that users can receive a 20% cashback six times per month when paying over Rs 20 through the Bhim App until December.

Integration and Accessibility

Described as India's first integrated common mobility app, Mumbai One eliminates the need for multiple paper tickets or separate bookings. It integrates services from 11 public transport operators, including suburban railways and various metro lines. However, season or return journey tickets for suburban trains cannot be booked through the app.

During its launch at the Navi Mumbai International Airport and Mumbai Metro 3 inauguration, PM Modi emphasised efforts to connect different transport modes seamlessly. "Today, the country is moving towards the vision of One Nation, One Mobility," he stated. The app aims to reduce long queues for tickets by offering a unified digital platform.

Technical Aspects and User Experience

The MMRDA assured that Mumbai One will not impose additional charges on users; all incidental costs are covered by the authority. The app supports cashless transactions and offers a multimodal journey planner with real-time route information. Hosted on a MeitY-compliant Google Cloud Platform and powered by Google Kubernetes Engine, it ensures data security and scalability.

The system can handle up to 50 lakh transactions daily, with expectations of growing its user base from 10 lakh to 50 lakh within a year. The app's launch marks a step towards making travel in Mumbai more convenient and efficient for its residents.
