First Mumbai-Goa Train on Western Railway Set for Inaugural Run on August 29
The Railway Board has approved a bi-weekly train service connecting Bandra Terminus in Mumbai to Goa and Maharashtra's Konkan region, officials announced on Tuesday. The inaugural journey is set for August 29, departing from Borivali station instead of Bandra Terminus.

Currently, all trains heading to Konkan and Goa from Mumbai depart from Central Railway stations. Introducing a Goa-bound train from Bandra Terminus will benefit tourists from Mumbai's western suburbs who frequent the coastal state.
Train Schedule and Stops
According to the Railway Board's notification, the train will leave Madgaon every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.40 am, arriving at Bandra Terminus by 11.40 pm. From Bandra Terminus, it will depart every Wednesday and Friday at 6.50 am, reaching Madgaon at 10 pm.
The train will make stops at 13 stations: Borivali, Vasai Road, Bhiwandi Road, Panvel, Roha, Veer, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Sawantwadi, Thivim, and Karmali. These stops ensure connectivity across key locations in the region.
Operational Challenges
A Western Railway official mentioned that without a cord line, changing the train's direction from north to south at Vasai Road would be necessary. This process could be time-consuming and might impact the punctuality of other trains.
The new service will use 20 Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches known for their enhanced safety, comfort, and efficiency. These modern coaches are designed to improve the overall travel experience for passengers.
The introduction of this bi-weekly train aims to provide better travel options for tourists and residents alike. It marks a significant step in improving rail connectivity between Mumbai's western suburbs and Goa.
