CBI Arrests Inspector and Nursing College Chairmen in MP Corruption Case

In a significant operation against corruption in Madhya Pradesh, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended 13 individuals for their alleged involvement in a bribery scheme aimed at securing favourable inspection reports for nursing colleges. Among those arrested are an inspector from the CBI itself and the chairpersons of two prominent nursing colleges in the state. This action follows directives from the Madhya Pradesh High Court to verify compliance with the required norms and standards by nursing colleges concerning infrastructure and faculty.

CBI Targets MP College Corruption

The arrests were made after the CBI's internal vigilance received information about corrupt practices linked to the inspections. Notably, Inspector Rahul Raj was caught while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from Anil Bhaskaran, Chairman of Malay College of Nursing, and his wife Suma Anil. Sushil Kumar Majoka, a Madhya Pradesh police officer currently attached to the CBI, was also among those detained.

Further arrests include Ravi Bhadoria, Chairman of R D Memorial College of Nursing and Pharmacy in Indore; Jugal Kishor Sharma, Director of Gwalior-based Bhaskar College of Nursing; Jalpana Adhikari, Principal of Bhopal-based Bhabha University; and Om Goswami of Pratyansh College of Nursing and Paramedical in Indore. The crackdown involved extensive coordination, with seven core teams and additional support teams conducting inspections across various colleges.

The operation unveiled that certain members of the support teams were engaged in corrupt practices, offering positive inspection reports in return for bribes. This led to an FIR against 23 individuals, including four CBI officials and several intermediaries. Subsequent searches across Bhopal, Indore, Ratlam, and Jaipur resulted in the seizure of over Rs 2.33 crore in cash, four gold bars, 36 digital devices, and more than 150 incriminating documents.

This case underscores the CBI's commitment to its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, emphasizing that the agency will not hesitate to take action against its own members if they are found guilty of misconduct. The arrested individuals have been remanded in CBI custody until May 29 as investigations continue. The agency has also initiated administrative actions against the officials involved in these corrupt activities.
