The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Monday that the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand can expect to experience ongoing heavy monsoon rainfall for the next 24 hours, followed by a reduction in intensity.

The IMD's daily bulletin noted that the monsoon trough, presently positioned to the north of its usual location, has led to intense rainfall in the Himalayan region. This trough is projected to gradually shift southward to its typical position starting from August 18.

During this weather pattern, Himachal Pradesh is anticipated to encounter moderate to heavy rainfall on August 14-15, while Uttarakhand is expected to observe similar rainfall patterns until August 18.

The IMD bulletin stated, "Isolated extremely heavy falls also likely over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours, followed by a substantial decrease from tomorrow."

The continuous downpour and instances of cloudbursts in Himachal and Uttarakhand have resulted in the destruction of vehicles, buildings, and bridges. Numerous fatalities have occurred due to floods and landslides triggered by the heavy rains.

The weather agency has also forecasted rainfall in portions of Punjab and Haryana over the next two to three days.

Manmohan Singh, Director of the Meteorological Department, mentioned, "The areas of Punjab and Haryana bordering Himachal Pradesh may experience heavy rains."

Additionally, Chandigarh is also predicted to experience rainfall.

"The current temperature, ranging between 34 to 36 degrees Celsius in Punjab and Haryana, is expected to decrease in the upcoming weeks."

The IMD has issued a cautionary statement regarding the risk of flash floods in select watersheds and localities of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Met Sub-divisions.

In the northeastern region of India, moderate to heavy rainfall activity is anticipated in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until August 18.
