Monsoon Arrives In Delhi, Mumbai: IMD Issues Heavy Rain Warning For Several States
In a rare occurrence, the southwest monsoon has advanced over Delhi and Mumbai, on same day, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
Several parts of Delhi woke up to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms early on Sunday as the monsoon arrived in the national capital.

Safdarjung, the city's primary weather base, recorded 47.2 mm of rainfall, while Palam in southwest Delhi received 22 mm of rainfall, till 5 am on Sunday.
While monsoon, which had a slow start, has now made swift progress, covering several regions including some parts of Maharashtra, entire Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, northeast India, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, most parts of Himachal Pradesh, some parts of Haryana, and now Delhi as well, according to the weather department.
This is the first time since 1961 that the monsoon has hit Delhi and Mumbai on same day. For Delhi, the normal date of monsoon onset is June 27, and for Mumbai it's June 11.
Orange alert in Maharashtra
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Raigad and Ratnagiri and a yellow warning for Palghar, Mumbai, Thane and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra.
Several parts of Mumbai have been witnessing continuous downpours since Saturday. So far, the city and its suburbs have recorded 162 mm of rainfall till 6:15 am on Sunday.
Light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy/very heavy falls, thunderstorms and lightning are predicted in Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Vidarbha regions in Maharashtra during the next five days.
Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over east Madhya Pradesh on June 26 and 27 and west Madhya Pradesh on June 27.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted over Kerala and Mahe on June 27. The Met Department has also forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Odisha from June 25 to 28 and over south interior Karnataka on June 25 and 26.
The weather office has predicted heavy rainfall over Gangetic West Bengal on June 25, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from June 25 to 28 and Arunachal Pradesh on June 28.
In Jharkhand, isolated heavy to very heavy falls are predicted on June 25 and 26.
