Monkeypox Symptoms Detected In Passenger At Trichy International Airport; Isolated

A man, 32, originally from Vadakku Pattam village in Valangaiman taluk of Tiruvarur district, recently displayed symptoms indicative of monkeypox after flying from Sharjah to Trichy international airport via an Air India Express flight. Detected in the early hours of Thursday, he was immediately isolated by health authorities. Employed at a private firm in Sharjah, he had traveled back to India when the symptoms emerged.

"We have identified a person with mpox symptoms. He himself admitted that he had mild symptoms. So we have taken his samples and sent to Chennai for laboratory confirmation. Results are awaited. Till then, we have isolated him at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Govt Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy," a senior official told media.

This prompt response underscores the vigilance of the district health department officials in Trichy, who are now awaiting the test results from Chennai to confirm the diagnosis.

The infection, known for its transmission through close contact with an infected individual, contaminated surfaces, and sometimes infected animals, poses a significant risk of spreading if not contained swiftly.
