Minimum 3 Children! Mohan Bhagwat Advocates For Population Growth Policy In India
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat recently highlighted the importance of maintaining a population growth rate above 2.1. Speaking at the 'Kathale Kul (Clan) Sammelan’ in Nagpur, he warned that if the rate falls below this threshold, society risks perishing on its own. He underscored the family as a crucial unit within Indian society.
During his Dussehra speech in Nagpur, Bhagwat called for a comprehensive population policy that treats all communities equally. He pointed out that differences in population growth among communities could affect geographical boundaries. He stressed the need to maintain balance among various groups within India.

Population Policy and Concerns
The RSS chief referred to India's population policy from 1998-2002, which set the ideal growth rate at 2.1. Bhagwat explained that according to population science, a rate below this number could lead to societal decline. He suggested aiming for a growth rate of three to ensure societal survival.
Bhagwat also addressed the potential burden of a high population but noted it could be an asset if managed well. He urged consideration of how many people India can sustain in the future, warning that imbalance might alter geographical borders.
Equal Rights for Women
In addition to his views on population, Bhagwat advocated for equal rights for women across all areas of life. While acknowledging the value of women as mothers, he argued against confining them to domestic roles alone. He emphasized their ability to contribute significantly in decision-making processes.
"Population control and religion-based population balance is an important subject that can no longer be ignored…So a comprehensive population policy should be brought and should be equally applicable to all. Only then rules pertaining to population control will yield results," added Bhagwat.
Bhagwat believes certain tasks are better suited for women due to their unique capabilities, which men may not possess. This perspective supports his call for women's equal participation in various sectors.
The RSS chief's remarks highlight the need for thoughtful policies addressing both demographic trends and gender equality. His emphasis on balanced growth and equal rights reflects broader concerns about India's future societal structure.
