PM Modi Completes Nehru's Unfinished Task by Abrogating Article 370: Union Minister

Union Minister Jitendra Singh stated that Article 370 was a constitutional, democratic, and justice miscarriage. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for completing Jawaharlal Nehru's unfinished task by abrogating it. Singh made these remarks on the fifth anniversary of the removal of the special provision from Jammu and Kashmir.

Modi Ends Nehrus Task: Article 370

Singh highlighted that former Prime Minister Nehru had acknowledged Article 370 as temporary. "Modi completed Nehru's unfinished task by abrogating Article 370," he said. He also mentioned that the people of Jammu and Kashmir endured seven decades of so-called special status under this provision.

Impact on Militancy and Employment

The minister noted that militancy is in its final phase, with the Centre successfully containing it post-Article 370 abrogation. He added that terrorists are now targeting soft spots to remain relevant but assured that this too will soon be controlled. Singh also recalled that the Centre abolished interviews for junior-level jobs in 2016, which was implemented in J&K only after Article 370's removal, providing equal opportunities to youth from remote areas.

"The hands which pelted stones are now holding computers and iPads," said Singh, who represents J-K's Udhampur constituency in Lok Sabha. He emphasized that the abrogation has brought citizenship rights to many who were deprived for seven decades.

Protests in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu-Kashmir

Protests have erupted in Pakistan-occupied Jammu-Kashmir (PoJK) over perceived injustices, contrasting with Pakistan's portrayal to the outside world. "Regardless of the lies spread about the alleged unfair treatment meted out to people of J&K in India, people of illegally-occupied PoJK feel deprived and envy people of J&K when they see the incredible development here," Singh said, as quoted by the Personnel Ministry.

Singh expressed his sorrow over three generations in Jammu and Kashmir being sacrificed for a false dream of freedom. He criticized those with vested interests who sent their children abroad while using others' children for the so-called freedom struggle, depriving them of education and opportunities.

Development Post-Abrogation

The Centre revoked Article 370 on August 5, 2019, which provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir within India. The government also introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, bifurcating the state into two Union territories—Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. This decision has rekindled aspirations among the youth.

Singh mentioned that unexplored natural resources and dormant human resources in J&K have resurfaced post-abrogation. He cited the Purple Revolution from Bhaderwah as an example, which has introduced new agri-startups and promises significant economic contributions to India.

"Hoisting the national flag was once a dream for many; now, the tricolour flies on every government office in J&K," Singh remarked. He concluded by noting that youth aspirations have been revived since Article 370's abrogation.
