Naga mob lynching leaves mob justice with a big question mark
Dimapur, March 12: In a shocking revealation, the Nagaland government informed the Centre that Syed Sarif Khan, the alleged rapist who was lynched by the Dimapur mob, had consensual sex with the 'victim' twice.
According to the government, in a statement, the accused had said that the woman had sex with him out of free will and was forced. He claimed to have paid her Rs 5,000 after the encounters.

Following this, the woman asked for more money which Khan refused. The rape FIR was filed soon after.
A home minister official said,"It appears on the basis of Khan's confession, that it was not rape but consensual sex." Since February 24, Khan was in the jail until a mob broke into the jail on March 5 and dragged him out. He was pelted with stones and dragged toward the Centre of the city where they tied his body to the clock tower.
Police had collected CCTV evidence from Hotel De Oriental Dream where the accused had taken the victim. The earlier report had suggested that a Naga youth was involved in introducing Khan to the woman. He too was taken into custody and was held in that very jail. However, he was not dragged and lynched by the mob.
