Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma Inaugurates UNESCO's World Art Day Celebrations in Aizawl
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated the World Art Day programme in Aizawl. The event, held on Tuesday, was a collaborative effort between the Mizoram government and the International Association of Art (IAA) India. Lalduhoma, who is also the chief patron of IAA Mizoram, spoke about the significant link between art and culture.

He emphasised that art is a powerful means of expressing identity, heritage, and community values. "Before we had writing systems, we told our stories through drawings. Among the Mizos too, art has long been used to reflect our thoughts, beliefs, and traditions," he said. He praised UNESCO's recognition of art as a tool for peace, healing, and education.
Art as a Universal Language
The chief minister highlighted that art transcends language, religion, and ethnicity. He stated that art allows universal communication and is crucial for preserving and honouring cultural identity. "It is not just about expression - it is about preserving and honoring who we are," he added.
Lalduhoma also noted that Mizoram's unique culture and beauty should be documented and promoted through visual art. He acknowledged that artists such as filmmakers, writers, photographers, and performers serve as ambassadors of Mizoram's heritage.
Celebrating World Art Day
World Art Day is celebrated globally on April 15 to honour Leonardo da Vinci's birthday. UNESCO officially endorsed this celebration in 2019. The event in Aizawl was attended by Art and Culture Minister C. Lalsawivunga, Information and Public Relations Minister Vanlalthlana, IAA President Manaj Saha, among others.
The programme underscored the importance of art in fostering understanding across different communities. It also highlighted the role of artists in promoting cultural heritage and values through their work.
