Mizoram CM Appeals for Immediate End to Violence in Manipur

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has made an emotional appeal for an immediate end to the violence in neighbouring Manipur, saying that it is incumbent upon all responsible and law-abiding citizens or entities of India to look for ways to restore peace.

The violence, which erupted between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur on May 3, has claimed the lives of over 120 people, injured more than 300, and displaced nearly 40,000.

Mizoram CM Appeals for Immediate End to Violence in Manipur

In a post on Twitter, Zoramthanga said that he was "deeply pained" by the violence and called for an end to the "brutal, untoward and uncalled-for incident". He said that he did not want to see any more pictures or video clips of churches being burnt, people being killed, or violence of any nature. "If there is only one way of settling for peace, shall we opt for that?" he asked.

Zoramthanga said that many lives had been lost and that the victims were his "kin and kin, my own blood".He called for the immediate restoration of peace and normalcy and said that it was incumbent upon all responsible citizens to find ways to achieve this.

The Mizoram chief minister also said that the violence in Manipur had resulted in the displacement of over 12,000 people in Mizoram. He appealed to the central government to provide humanitarian assistance to the displaced persons.

Zoramthanga's appeal comes as the violence in Manipur shows no signs of abating. The two communities have a long history of conflict, dating back to the British colonial era.

The violence has been exacerbated by the rise of militant groups in both communities. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the two communities are spread across different parts of Manipur, making it difficult to maintain law and order. The central government has deployed additional security forces to Manipur in an attempt to contain the violence. However, the violence has continued unabated, raising concerns about the ability of the government to restore peace.
