Minor earthquake hits NE India, parts of Bangladesh

Shillong, March 21: A minor earthquake was recorded in India's northeastern states and parts of Bangladesh on Tuesday night, an official said.

Its epicentre was located on the Bangladesh-India border, a seismologist at the Regional Seismological Centre, told IANS.

The earthquake was felt in some parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and adjoining areas of northeastern region.

Seven of the northeastern states -- Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur -- are considered by seismologists as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.
