Dare you to touch me…: BJP leader Annamalai gives 24 hours deadline to Stalin govt in migrant labour case

The Tamil Nadu police also issued a statement clarifying that Bihari migrant workers were not being attacked in Tamil Nadu.

Soon after Chennai police booked him in connection with alleged attacks on migrant labourers in Tamil Nadu, State BJP chief K Annamalai on Sunday challenged the MK Stalin-led DMK government to "arrest him within 24 hours".

Annamalai has been booked by the Chennai police for inciting violence and promoting enmity between two groups after rumours of attacks on migrant workers in the state.

"I understand DMK has filed cases against me for exposing their 7-decade propaganda against North Indian brothers. So, here is the video of what they spoke, which was mentioned in my press release yesterday. I challenge Fascist DMK to arrest me!," Annamalai tweeted.

"You think that you can suppress democracy by filing false cases. I give you 24 hours and dare you to touch me," he said in a tweet.

In the last week, several fake messages have been spread about attacks on Bihari migrants in Tamil Nadu.

Several videos were doing rounds on social media which alleged that migrant labourers were being beaten up brutally in Tamil Nadu. The state government of Tamil Nadu and Bihar have both issued a warning against spreading such messages.

The Tamil Nadu police also issued a statement clarifying that Bihari migrant workers were not being attacked in Tamil Nadu. Many news channels allegedly misreported these misleading claims.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi reached out to migrant workers saying there is no need not panic.

"Governor urged the North Indian labourers in Tamil Nadu not to panic and feel insecure, as the people of Tamil Nadu are very nice and friendly, and the state government is committed to provide them security," Raj Bhavan said on its official Twitter handle.

Annamalai was booked under sections 153, 153A(1)(a), 505(1)(b) and 505(1)(c) of the Indian Penal Code, after he held the ruling DMK and its allies responsible for the situation.
