MHA Addresses Congress's Appeal For Manmohan Singh's Memorial Space
The Union home ministry announced that space will be allocated for a memorial dedicated to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. This decision was communicated to Singh's family and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The announcement came in a late-night statement titled "Facts of the matter regarding memorial for Former Prime Minister Late Dr Manmohan Singh."

Singh, who passed away on Thursday at 92, was known for his role in economic reforms during his tenure as India's prime minister from 2004 to 2014. The Congress party expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the delay in finding a location for Singh's cremation and memorial was an intentional slight against India's first Sikh prime minister.
Memorial Space Allocation
Following a Cabinet meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed Kharge and Singh's family about the government's decision to allocate space for the memorial. The home ministry clarified that while the allocation process is underway, cremation and other formalities can proceed. A Trust needs to be established before the space can be officially assigned.
The Congress party raised concerns after the home ministry announced that Singh's last rites would take place at New Delhi's Nigambodh Ghat on Saturday at 11:45 am with full state honours. They viewed the delay in securing a memorial site as disrespectful to Singh's legacy.
The government has assured that steps are being taken to honour Singh appropriately. The allocation of space for his memorial is part of these efforts, ensuring his contributions are remembered.
