'Mera Ghar Poora Hindustan Hai': Rahul Gandhi After Getting Back Tughlaq Lane House

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, whose parliamentary membership has been restored, got back possession of his official bungalow in the national capital on Tuesday.

The House Committee of the Lok Sabha decided to allot the same bungalow he was asked to vacate after Gandhi was disqualified as a member of the lower house on March 24. When asked about this development, the Congress leader replied to reporters, "Mera ghar poora Hindustan hai," (the whole country is my home)."

Gandhi has received a letter confirming the reallocation of the house he had been using as a Lok Sabha MP for nearly two decades, PTI reported citing sources. Currently, he is residing with his mother, Sonia Gandhi, who also serves as the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party.

On Monday, the Lok Sabha Secretariat restored Gandhi's membership of the lower house after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in the defamation case.

In April, Rahul Gandhi adhered to protocol by vacating his official residence in central Delhi. This action followed his disqualification as an MP in March due to a conviction in a criminal defamation case by a Surat court. A disqualified MP loses the privilege of government accommodation and is typically granted one month to vacate the official residence.

Meanwhile, the former Congress President will visit Wayanad on August 12-13, his first trip to his constituency after being reinstated as a member of Parliament, party general secretary KC Venugopal said on Tuesday.

"On 12-13 August, Sh. @RahulGandhi ji will be in his constituency Wayanad! The people of Wayanad are elated that democracy has won, their voice has returned to Parliament! Rahul ji is not just an MP but a member of their family!" Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said in a tweet.
