Meghalaya Assembly Session Scheduled for February 20 May Be Adjourned in Honour of MP Ricky A J Syngkon

The Meghalaya assembly session on February 20 may be adjourned to honour the late MP Ricky A J Syngkon. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma confirmed discussions regarding the postponement of the budget presentation as a mark of respect.

The Meghalaya assembly session on February 20, intended for the state budget presentation, might be postponed. This decision is to honour Shillong MP Ricky A J Syngkon, who passed away on Thursday evening. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma mentioned that Syngkon collapsed while playing futsal near the city and was declared dead at a private hospital around 8:45 pm.

Chief Minister Sangma shared his shock over Syngkon's unexpected passing. He recalled their recent meeting in Delhi where they discussed development plans for Meghalaya. "I had met Syngkon about two weeks back in Delhi... that was the last meeting and conversation I had with him," Sangma stated.

Assembly Session Postponement

Sangma has consulted with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is also in charge of Parliamentary Affairs. They plan to meet with the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), led by the Speaker, to discuss the session's adjournment. Sangma conveyed to Tynsong that it would be fitting to halt the House proceedings as a tribute.

Despite the scheduled budget presentation, Sangma believes postponing it would be a respectful gesture. "Even though tomorrow is the day we are supposed to present the budget, it will make absolute sense and a mark of respect to the departed soul if we were to postpone even the presentation of the budget," he remarked.

Legacy and Condolences

Syngkon's dedication and passion for serving Khasi and Jaintia Hills were highlighted by Sangma. He described Syngkon's passing as a significant loss for Meghalaya. "Syngkon served the people with humility, vision and a sincere desire to uplift society," Sangma noted.

The Chief Minister extended his deepest condolences to Syngkon's family, supporters, and party leaders. "I express my deepest condolences to the family of late Ricky Syngkon, and I pray to the Almighty that he gives strength to the family members as well as his supporters and party leaders to bear the huge loss," he added.
