Meet The Richest Candidate In Jharkhand Elections 2024 Phase 1

In the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, an analysis of the candidates' affidavits has revealed that 34% of the contenders are millionaires, showcasing a significant wealth disparity among the participants. The scrutinized documents, excluding only one due to incomplete documentation, show a broad financial spectrum among the 682 candidates.

The variation is stark, with the wealthiest candidate, Kandomani Bhumij, an Independent from Potka, boasting assets over Rs 80 crore. This financial disclosure places him at the top of the wealth chart for the first phase of the elections.

Following closely behind Bhumij are two other affluent candidates. Krishna Nand Tripathi, representing Congress from Daltonganj in Palamu, and independent candidate Ayush Ranjan from Ranchi, both declared possessions surpassing the Rs 70 crore mark. These revelations underscore the financial muscle some candidates wield in the electoral arena.

Diving deeper into the financial backgrounds of the candidates, the report by Jharkhand Election Watch and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) highlights that the average asset value among Phase 1 candidates stands at Rs 2.16 crore. This average indicates a considerable wealth accumulation among a significant portion of the contestants.

Among the major political parties, an overwhelming majority of their candidates are millionaires, with the Congress party leading at 94%, followed by the BJP at 83%, the RJD at 80%, and the JMM at 78%.

Contrasting sharply with the affluent candidates are those at the lower end of the wealth spectrum. Sushil Topno from Sisai, representing the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha, has declared assets of merely Rs 7,000. Independent candidates Basant Kumar Dungdung and Roshun Sundi are not far ahead, with assets valued at Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. This contrast highlights the economic diversity among the candidates in the fray.

The educational qualifications of the candidates vary widely, with 45% having studied between the 5th and 12th grades, while 51% boast of graduation degrees or higher levels of education. This distribution indicates a mix of educational backgrounds among those contesting in the first phase.

In terms of gender representation, there are 73 female candidates, accounting for 11% of the total, highlighting a modest but significant participation of women in the electoral process.

The first phase of the elections is scheduled for November 13, with the subsequent phase on November 20, and the results will be announced on November 23. The election will offer a glimpse into the diverse socio-economic backgrounds of the candidates and their ability to connect with the electorate across such varied spectrums.

The financial disclosures and backgrounds of the candidates in Jharkhand's first election phase paint a picture of disparity but also of diversity. With a mix of millionaires and modest earners, graduates and school-educated individuals, male and female candidates, the election is set to be a battleground of varied ideologies and perspectives.
