Meet Preneet Kaur, Who Voted Against Mahua Moitra In Cash-For-Query Case

Preneet Kaur, the Lok Sabha MP and suspended Congress leader, has voted in favour of the report prepared by Lok Sabha Ethics Panel on the 'cash-for-query' case against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, panel Chairman Vinod Kumar Sonkar said.

Who is Preneet Kaur?
Preneet Kaur is the wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. The Congress disciplinary committee in February this year suspended her for anti-party activities.

The Congress Punjab had alleged that she was helping the BJP in the state. Her husband Amarinder Singh and daughter Jai Inder Kaur joined the saffron party, last year.

Since her husband was removed from the position of Chief Minister by the Congress in 2021, she has refrained from participating in the party's activities. She also opted out of joining Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra.

"(Congress MP) Preneet Kaur sided with the truth. I thank her for it. No right-thinking person would support Mahua Moitra," ANI quoted BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi as saying.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on Thursday recommended the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from the House in the "cash-for-query" matter, PTO reported citing sources.

The committee, headed by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar, met and adopted its report recommending her expulsion. After the meeting, Sonkar told reporters that six members of the panel supported adoption of the report and four opposed it.

The report will now be sent to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for further action.

After the meeting, four opposition members said the panel's recommendation was "prejudiced" and "incorrect".

The committee had earlier heard Moitra, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who filed the complaint against her, and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai.

Based on information shared by Dehadrai, the BJP MP accused Moitra of asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.

Moitra has denied the charge of receiving any pecuniary benefit.

Expressing solidarity with Moitra, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) labelled the move as "vendetta politics," accusing the BJP of attempting to stifle voices critical of the central government.
