Massive Blaze On Freight Train In Tamil Nadu Halts Suburban Rail Services

A major fire erupted early Sunday morning, July 13, 2025, on a freight train transporting crude oil near Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu. The train, reportedly carrying 45 tankers filled with either crude oil or high-speed diesel, caught fire between 4:45 and 5:30 am while moving along the Tiruvallur-Egattur railway stretch, about 43 km from Chennai Central.

Incident Overview

The fire broke out near the Tiruvallur railway station in the Chennai-Arakkonam section. Preliminary findings suggest that the derailment of two or three wagons may have caused a fuel leak, which then ignited. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
