Many in NCP with BJP: Saamna editorial explains why Pawar may have resigned

Saamna the mouthpiece of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) in an editorial said that Sharad Pawar announced his resignation from the post of president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as many MLAs of the party are inclined towards the BJP.

After he announced his resignation, many within the party were stirred, but many of them have one foot in the BJP, the editorial said. Pawar may have made this announcement with dignity as his party is splitting. "Jayant Patil right said to Pawar, that you are the party. The NCP is standing in the name of Sharad Pawar," the editorial also said.

It also noted that Supriya Sule had worked great as an MP and has her grasp in New Delhi. Ajit Pawar's only aim, on the other hand is to become the chief minister, the editorial also noted.

The editorial also said that the decision by Pawar was a masterstroke. He turned the table by dropping the bomb. "Pawar exposed what was going on inside the party. He is a heater of all that happened. Pawar is the Bhishma of India politics, but showed that unlike Bhishma he will not lie down, but will steer," the Saamna editorial also noted.

Earlier this week Pawar announced that he was resigning as the president of the party. A meeting of a committee appointed by him is set to meet in Mumbai tomorrow at 11 am. During the meet a new chief is set to be picked. It is being widely speculated that his daughter Supriya Sule may look after the national wing of the party, while her cousin Ajit Pawar could be entrusted with the state's responsibility.
