Mansukh Mandaviya Sworn In Again, Recognized for COVID-19 Efforts

Mansukh Mandaviya, a dedicated worker from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has taken his oath as a Cabinet minister for the second time, marking another significant milestone in his political career. Starting his journey as a grassroots worker, Mandaviya's political trajectory saw him rising through the ranks to become the Union Health Minister during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic. On Sunday, he reaffirmed his commitment to serving the nation by being sworn in again as a Cabinet minister.

Mandaviya Rejoins Modi Cabinet

His victory in the Lok Sabha elections from Porbandar, Gujarat, was a testament to his popularity and the trust people have in him. Mandaviya secured his position by defeating Congress's Lalit Vasoya with a substantial margin of over 3.8 lakh votes. This victory was not just a personal achievement but also a reflection of his dedication and hard work over the years.

Known affectionately as the Green MP for his environmentally friendly habit of cycling to Parliament, Mandaviya, at 51, has shown a consistent rise in his political career since his early days with the BJP. His roles have been diverse and impactful, including leading the ministries of health and chemicals and fertilisers in Modi government 2.0. His appointment as the health minister came at a crucial time in mid-2021 when India was grappling with the COVID-19 crisis, taking over from Harsh Vardhan.

Mandaviya's roots trace back to Hanol village in Palitana taluka of Gujarat's Bhavnagar district where he was born into a farmer's family. His early involvement in politics through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad paved the way for his entry into mainstream politics. His academic credentials are impressive as well, holding a postgraduate degree in political science from Bhavnagar University and a Ph.D from the Gujarat Institute of Development and Research, Ahmedabad.

His political journey is marked by significant milestones, including becoming the youngest member of the Gujarat legislative assembly in 2002 and playing a key role in BJP's high-tech and mega membership drive campaign in Gujarat in 2014. His administrative capabilities were recognized early on when Narendra Modi, then Chief Minister of Gujarat, appointed him as chairman of Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Limited.

During his tenure as health minister, Mandaviya oversaw the implementation of the world's largest COVID-19 vaccination programme, with more than 220 crore doses administered under his leadership. His efforts also extended to making health services accessible through the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and launching the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to eliminate tuberculosis five years ahead of the Sustainable Development Goal target of 2030.

In response to the severe second wave of Covid-19, Mandaviya was instrumental in ramping up the supply of oxygen and medicines as MoS for chemicals and fertilisers. Under his guidance, over 10,600 Jan Aushadhi stores were set up across India, providing affordable medicines to millions. Furthermore, his initiative to transform over 3.3 lakh retail shops of fertilisers into Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras highlights his commitment to enhancing India's agricultural sector.

Mansukh Mandaviya's journey from a grassroots worker to a key figure in India's fight against COVID-19 and beyond is a narrative of dedication, hard work, and visionary leadership. As he takes on his responsibilities once again as a Cabinet minister, his past achievements and future endeavors continue to inspire many across the nation.
