Manipur Woman Allegedly Raped, Tortured, Burnt Alive In Brutal Attack That Took Place On Nov 7: Autopsy
Autopsy findings on Wednesday revealed horrific details of "third-degree" torture, including the use of nails and burns inflicted on a 31-year-old mother of three, who was allegedly raped and then burned to death by armed intruders in her village home in Jiribam, Manipur, on November 7.
The post-mortem, conducted at Silchar Medical College in neighbouring Assam, could not confirm sexual assault due to the severe burns that left the body almost entirely unrecognisable.

However, the FIR registered in Jiribam quotes the victim's husband, who stated that she was raped before being "brutally killed" at their residence. The attackers, who also set fire to 17 homes in the Zairawn area that night, are suspected to be members of a valley-based group.
The autopsy report detailed "a wound in the back of the right thigh" and a "metallic nail embedded in the medial aspect of the left thigh."
It also mentioned that the body was 99% burned, with even bone fragments charred, and parts of the right upper limb, lower limbs, and facial structure were missing.
The report's details are too graphic to fully describe, indicating the immense suffering the woman endured before the flames consumed her and her home. It remains unclear where the victim's husband and children were when the attack occurred.
The killing has been condemned by Kuki-Zo organisations as "barbaric," with anger mounting over the inability of security forces to identify the perpetrators.
The Indigenous Tribes Advocacy Committee of Pherzawl and Jiribam has called for central intervention to protect the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar communities in these tribal-majority areas.
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum, representing various tribal groups in Churachandpur, has warned that further unrest could follow if the attackers are not arrested.
The brutality of the woman's alleged rape and murder echoes the worst violence seen in Manipur since the ethnic strife began in May of last year, with incidents of women being raped, paraded naked, and killed during the conflict.
The violence continues to exacerbate the deepening divide between the hill and valley regions, leaving hundreds of displaced families in relief shelters across Jiribam and the rest of the state.
Manipur Police explained that the victim's remains were sent to Silchar for autopsy, as transporting the body to Imphal via NH-37 was "very much inconvenient due to the ongoing ethnic crisis."
