The first quake, measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale, struck at 11:06 AM, with its epicenter located 44 km east of Yairipok in Imphal East district at a depth of 110 km, according to the Regional Seismological Centre in Shillong.
Second Quake Hits Kamjong District

A second tremor, registering 4.1 in magnitude, hit Kamjong district at 12:20 PM at a depth of 66 km, officials reported. The back-to-back quakes caused panic among residents across Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states.
Buildings Sustain Cracks, No Casualties Reported
Several buildings in Manipur developed cracks due to the tremors, with social media videos showing visible damage to a school building in Wangjing Lamding, Thoubal district. The school was being used as a relief camp for those displaced by ethnic violence.
"We are assessing reports of structural damage," an official in Imphal stated.
So far, no significant damage has been reported from other northeastern states, and authorities continue to monitor the situation.
