Manipur Chief Minister Condemns Deadly Attack on CRPF, Promises Action
In a recent statement, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed his strong condemnation of the militant attack on security forces in Bishnupur district, which resulted in the tragic loss of two CRPF personnel. The attack, occurring in the early hours at an India Reserve Battalion camp in Naranseina, Moirang police station area, also left two others injured. The Chief Minister assured that efforts to apprehend the culprits were actively underway, with a commitment to bringing them to justice promptly.

The deceased personnel were identified as Sub-Inspector N. Sarkar from Assam's Kokrajhar district and Head Constable Arup Saini from Bankura district in West Bengal. Amidst these challenging times, Singh pointed out the recent successful conduct of Lok Sabha elections in the state as a sign of restored peace and growing confidence among the populace. However, he lamented the targeting of security forces, emphasizing their role in protecting the state's people.
Addressing allegations made by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh regarding voter pressure in favor of the BJP's ally, the Naga Peoples Front, Singh refuted these claims. He highlighted that the Election Commission's actions are based on observer reports rather than social media posts, noting that re-polling was limited to only 11 polling stations.
The Chief Minister also spoke on the Meitei-Kuki conflict, outlining government initiatives aimed at restoring peace through the deployment of paramilitary forces, assistance for displaced persons, and reconciliation efforts via peace committees. He credited these steps to the central government's support and Union Home Minister Amit Shah's personal involvement in dialogue with the communities.
On combating drug trafficking, Singh detailed the successes of the "War on Drugs" campaign launched by his government in 2018. This initiative has led to significant narcotics seizures and a reduction in poppy cultivation, with recovered drugs valued at over Rs 60,000 crore.
Furthermore, Singh underscored the importance of implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and inner line permit systems to protect indigenous communities and enhance security. He also highlighted efforts to improve connectivity and infrastructure development in Manipur, including projects like the Moreh highway and the Golden Quadrilateral project, as crucial for promoting economic growth and development.
This series of measures and initiatives by Singh's administration reflects a multifaceted approach to addressing security challenges, fostering peace, and driving development in Manipur. The Chief Minister's commitment to justice for the fallen CRPF personnel and his broader vision for the state's progress underscore a determined leadership stance against adversity.
