KG Sunanda, who suffered 50 percent burns has been shifted to a private hospital. Doctors said the burns were severe and she is under observation.

While a few reports have claimed that the duo were business partners, a report from The Hindu said that the attacker was the victim's husband.

At around 2 PM, the attacker Renukaradhya, entered the classroom and shouted at the teacher, and argued for a while.

As the stunned students watched, the attacker poured kerosene on the teacher and set her ablaze. The attacker then attempted to escape and students ran out from the class to seek help for their teacher.

Hearing her screaming, the headmaster ran into the classroom. He saw Renukaradhya running from the school towards his parked car while Sunanda engulfed in flames.

Sunanda had been teaching Social Science to class 5 students when the incident took place.

The Magadi and Byadarahalli police are currently investigating the case. They have launched a search for Renukaradhya, who is absconding.
