Suspended Postal Employee Detained for Using Fake Identity at Atomic Energy Institute

A former postal worker has been detained for allegedly using a fake identity to access a high-security facility of the Department of Atomic Energy, according to police reports. The individual, previously employed as a postal assistant at the local general post office, faced suspension in 2022, stated Alok Kumar Sharma, the additional deputy commissioner of police.

Postal Employee Detained for Fake Identity

The man reportedly impersonated a director from the postal department to gain entry into the post office located within the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RR-CAT) on Monday. He claimed his visit was for audit and inspection purposes. Following a complaint by a post office official, he was detained for questioning. Authorities are investigating all possible motives behind his entry into the RR-CAT premises.

Security Measures and Investigation

According to an RR-CAT press release, the suspect presented an identity card from the postal department to security at the main entrance. This card permitted him access solely to the post office, ensuring no breach occurred in the institute's layered security system. An official confirmed that police found additional fake identity cards on him, including those of a Marcos Commando from the Ministry of Defence and a 'superintendent investigation' from the National Intelligence Bureau's Cyber Security Cell.

The accused has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), as per police information. Investigators are delving into various aspects to understand his intentions and how he managed to obtain these false identities. The situation highlights ongoing concerns about security breaches and identity fraud in sensitive areas.

The incident underscores the importance of stringent security protocols and thorough checks at high-security facilities. It also raises questions about how individuals can acquire fake identities and access restricted areas. Authorities continue their investigation to ensure such incidents do not recur, maintaining safety and integrity at critical sites.
