In a tragic incident, a customer was allegedly beaten to death by the owner and staff of Meridian Restaurant in Punjagutta, Hyderabad following a fight over extra raita (curd) on Sunday night. The dispute reportedly originated from a disagreement over an extra serving of raita (yogurt).

The victim, has been identified as Mohammad Liaqat who is a resident of Hashmatabad in Chandrayangutta, had gone to the restaurant for dinner that evening along with his friend at around 11 pm.

The confrontation began when Liaqat requested additional raita, and purportedly, the waiter disregarded his request, leading to a heated argument. Matters escalated when the restaurant's manager and other staff members allegedly assaulted Liaqat, resulting in severe injuries.

Family members of the victim have expressed concerns about the response of the police. They claim that the police did not act promptly to facilitate Liaqat's admission to the hospital. Additionally, they allege that the police showed inappropriate behavior while the victim was fighting for his life.

Furthermore, Liaqat's friend disclosed that they were brought to the police station from the restaurant, where a sub-inspector reportedly subjected the victim to further physical abuse. Only when Liaqat's condition deteriorated significantly he was finally transferred to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

DCP South Zone Joel Davis has said, "A murder case has been registered, and five individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident." He also dismissed reports of police mistreatment towards Liaqat as baseless, emphasizing that an inquiry was conducted, and the victim's family members were shown footage from closed-circuit cameras at the police station.

In the aftermath of this tragic event, AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig met with senior police officials, urging them to ensure that the victim's family receives justice. A murder case has been officially filed at the Punjagutta police station, and the accused individuals are now in police custody.
