Man Attacks Devotees With Iron Rod At Golden Temple, 5 Injured
In a saddening and shocking incident, a man allegedly attacked devotees with an iron rod at the Golden Temple, Amritsar. According to the reports, over 5 people got injured in the attack and one out of them is critically injured. The victim was soon admitted to a nearby hospital where he is receiving treatment in the ICU.
The attacker, identified as Zulfan, hailing from Haryana was subdued by staff and handed over to the police.
The attack took place at Guru Ram Dass Serai, near the Golden Temple's community kitchen. According to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Zulfan was initially seen acting suspiciously within the temple grounds. When questioned by staff about his identity, he argued with them and was asked to leave.

Police Investigation Underway
Despite being told to leave, Zulfan returned with an iron rod and attacked SGPC employees and devotees who tried to stop him. Sarmel Singh, Station House Officer of Kotwali police station, confirmed that Zulfan is from Haryana and sustained injuries during the altercation. "An investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack," said Singh.
Among those injured is a Sikh youth from Bathinda who is in critical condition at Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. Dr Jasmeet Singh stated, "As per statements from the injured, an unknown man attacked them with a rod. Of the five patients brought in, one is in serious condition and has been shifted to the ICU. The rest are stable."
Additional Suspect Arrested
Another suspect believed to have accompanied Zulfan was also arrested after being seen conducting a recce of the premises. Authorities suspect that Zulfan may be mentally unstable; however, this has not been officially confirmed yet. Both SGPC and local police are working together on this case.
The victims are undergoing medical evaluations including CT scans and X-rays to determine their injuries' extent. This incident has raised concerns about security within religious sites, prompting authorities to review safety measures.
