Mamata Banerjee Prevents Demolition of 140 Illegal Hotels on Mandarmani Beach
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has halted the demolition of 140 hotels in Mandarmani. These hotels were built illegally on the beach, according to a reliable source. The Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction as the state secretariat was not informed about the demolition order in advance.

The district authorities issued the demolition notice following a National Green Tribunal directive. This was due to violations of the Coastal Regulation Zone by these establishments. However, Banerjee instructed that no bulldozers would be permitted anywhere in the state.
Coastal Regulation Zone Violations
The Purba Medinipur district administration recently sent a notice to hotel owners in Mandarmani. It demanded the removal of illegal constructions by November 11 or face legal consequences. The notice cited violations related to the Coastal Regulation Zone.
A copy of this notice is available with sources, but its execution is pending. The Chief Minister's intervention has put a pause on any immediate action against these hotels.
State Secretariat Not Informed
The Chief Minister was particularly displeased because the state secretariat was not consulted before issuing the demolition order. Even Chief Secretary Manoj Pant was unaware of this development, according to an official.
Banerjee's strong stance indicates her disapproval of such unilateral decisions by district authorities without prior consultation with higher state officials.
The situation at Mandarmani beach has drawn significant attention due to these developments. The Chief Minister's directive ensures that no demolition activities will proceed without proper communication and approval from the state government.
