Mamata Banerjees Security Beefed Up After Road Accident
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees security has been strengthened after a road accident. DGP Rajeev Kumar held a virtual meeting with SPs and police commissioners to review security arrangements.
Following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's injury in a road accident on Wednesday, West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar convened a virtual meeting with Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all districts and officers of police commissionerates on Thursday. The meeting focused on enhancing the security measures for the Chief Minister.

Mobile Phone Usage Restricted During Duty
During the meeting, DGP Kumar emphasized the importance of strict adherence to security protocols, particularly regarding the use of mobile phones while on duty. He cautioned police officers, especially those assigned to the Chief Minister's security detail, against using mobile phones during their shifts. This measure aims to ensure undivided attention and focus on security responsibilities.
Scrutiny of Convoy Incident
DGP Kumar engaged in a separate discussion with the SP of Purba Bardhaman district to thoroughly examine the circumstances that led to another vehicle entering the Chief Minister's convoy. He sought detailed information on how the unauthorized vehicle managed to breach the security cordon.
Foolproof Security Arrangements Ordered
The DGP issued strict directives to implement foolproof security arrangements for all future events and programs involving the Chief Minister. He emphasized that no lapses or flaws in security measures would be tolerated. All police officers were instructed to meticulously double-check the security arrangements to prevent any recurrence of incidents like the recent accident.
Senior Officers Present in the Meeting
The meeting was attended by senior police officials, including the Chief Minister's security director, Peeyush Pandey, and Additional Director General (Law and Order), Jawed Shamim.
Recalling Previous Injuries
The meeting took place against the backdrop of Chief Minister Banerjee's history of injuries. In June 2022, she sustained a knee injury while disembarking from a helicopter in northern West Bengal. Subsequently, in September, she suffered another ligament injury in her left knee, necessitating microsurgery. Additionally, in the lead-up to the 2021 assembly polls, she fractured a leg, which confined her to a wheelchair during the campaign.
The West Bengal government is taking proactive measures to strengthen the security arrangements for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, ensuring her safety and well-being during public engagements and official duties.
