Mamata Banerjee Calls for Police Action Against Obstacles to Water Pipeline Installation

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed the police to act against those obstructing the installation of water supply pipelines to homes. She mentioned that she has requested the director general of police to address this issue. A recent survey highlighted that in some areas, pipes were installed by the state's Public Health and Engineering Department, but water supply had not commenced, and soil testing was overlooked.

Mamata Banerjee Demands Action on Water Pipelines

Banerjee criticised the BJP, accusing them of claiming credit for the pipeline work done by the state government before elections. "We purchase land, fund 90 per cent of this project... and pay for the maintenance. But during elections, the BJP claims that the central government did everything. That is not the case," she stated.

Water Supply Coverage and Future Plans

The Chief Minister noted that 75 per cent of village areas and 73 per cent of municipal areas are already included in the water supply initiative. The state government has invested Rs 55,000 crore in this project. An additional Rs 66,000 crore will be allocated to connect another 1.75 crore households across West Bengal.

Banerjee emphasised that despite significant contributions from the state government, the BJP attempts to attribute these efforts to the central government during election periods. This misrepresentation undermines the state's extensive work in providing water infrastructure.

The Chief Minister's remarks highlight ongoing challenges in ensuring effective water supply infrastructure across West Bengal. Her call for police intervention aims to address disruptions in pipeline installations and ensure smooth project execution.
