Malviya Nagar Hotel Fire: 8 Members of CA's Family Gathered For Ailing Father Died In Gurugram

The Malviya Nagar hotel fire at Flourish Stay B&B in South Delhi has wiped out three generations of a Gurugram family, leaving eight relatives dead. Chartered accountant Vivek Aggarwal, from Gurugram's Sector 46, died along with spouse Tarjani Aggarwal, daughters Pearl (15) and Jivisha (20), and mother Premlata Aggarwal.

Three members of Vivek Aggarwal’s extended family, who had travelled from Rajasthan to visit the ailing family elder, also lost their lives. The group had checked into Malviya Nagar's Flourish Stay B&B only days earlier, unaware the accommodation would become a fatal trap during the South Delhi inferno.

Families shattered in Malviya Nagar hotel fire

The Aggarwal family selected the hotel mainly because it was close to the hospital where Vivek Aggarwal’s father, the family patriarch, was admitted in intensive care. Staying nearby allowed relatives to rotate duties and remain available for the elder’s treatment while maintaining some routine for Pearl and Jivisha.

By Wednesday morning, however, the plan collapsed in tragedy as flames spread through the Malviya Nagar hotel. All five members of the Gurugram household and the three visiting relatives from Rajasthan died within minutes, according to relatives at the scene. Back at the hospital, Vivek Aggarwal’s father remained critically ill and unaware of the multiple deaths.

Witness accounts and safety concerns in Malviya Nagar hotel fire

According to a report in Tribune, relative Ajay Gupta reached the accident site later and struggled to process the scale of loss. “It is difficult to even comprehend what has happened,” Ajay Gupta told this Tribune correspondent. Gupta said Tarjani Aggarwal was Gupta's niece and stressed the family would not have stayed there without the hospital’s proximity.

“They were there only because Vivek's father was admitted in the hospital. The hotel was nearby and it was convenient for the family to stay there while looking after his treatment,” Ajay Gupta said, eyes filled with tears. Other Aggarwal relatives remained stunned, trying to imagine the family’s final moments as smoke closed in around the rooms.

Ajay Gupta recalled a frantic phone call from Vivek Aggarwal as conditions worsened inside the Malviya Nagar hotel. “He called us asking for help. He was terrified. He told us they were all trapped. He said there was smoke everywhere and they had nowhere to go. He kept saying they were locked in and could not find a way out,” Ajay Gupta said.

Gupta said the family on the phone felt helpless while listening to those final words. “We were trying to understand what was happening, trying to help, but there was nothing we could do from where we were. Those words will forever ring in our ears,” the grieving relative said, describing the call made as flames and smoke filled the building.

It is reported that several safety systems had failed during the blaze. Sealed glass windows prevented ventilation, while sensor-operated gates reportedly did not open once the fire took hold. The central locking system also failed, effectively trapping guests inside as corridors filled with thick smoke.

Authorities prepared for the cremation of the deceased members of the Gurugram family after the post-mortem process and formal handover of bodies to surviving relatives. At the Aggarwal home in Gurugram's Sector 46, neighbours reported a desolate scene, with doorbells ringing unanswered throughout the day in a house now left without its core family.
