Malviya Nagar deaths: Delhi Police await statement as two sisters found dead and mother critical

Delhi Police are investigating the deaths of two sisters found in separate rooms at their Malviya Nagar residence after their father alerted officers when no one answered the door. One body had a pillow over the face and the other had a ligature around the neck. Their mother remains critical at AIIMS Trauma Centre, and police are awaiting her statement.

A woman found unconscious at a Malviya Nagar home remained in a critical condition on Friday, police said. Two daughters were discovered dead in the same residence on Thursday evening. Investigators said they were waiting to record the woman’s statement. Police said the account could clarify what happened inside the house.

Police said the case surfaced when the husband returned from work at about 5.30 pm. Officers said repeated knocking brought no response from inside. Police said the husband then suspected something was wrong. The husband alerted the police, who reached the ground-floor flat soon after.

Malviya Nagar residence locked from inside, police find two bodies

A police team found the main door locked from inside, a senior officer said. After entering, officers found the bodies of two sisters in separate rooms. One woman had a pillow placed over her face, police said. The other woman had a ligature around her neck, the officer added.

The mother was located unconscious in a third room and was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Police said the woman was stated to be unconscious. Naphthalene balls were recovered from the room where the mother was lying. Police said this raised suspicion of a possible attempt to end life.

Malviya Nagar post-mortem to confirm cause of death

Police identified the deceased as sisters aged 33 and 28. Police said the elder sister was specially abled. Investigators said the younger sister had completed a law degree. Police said the younger woman had cut marks on her hand. Police also said strangulation with a crepe bandage appeared possible.

Police said the exact cause of death would be confirmed after a post-mortem examination. Crime and forensic teams examined the spot, police said. Investigators said they were checking all possible angles. Police said they were probing whether the mother killed the daughters. Police added that further investigation was underway.

Malviya Nagar family details and neighbours’ reaction

Police said the family lived on the ground floor of a three-storey building. The husband, two daughters and the mother-in-law stayed on the ground floor. Police said the grandparents lived on the first floor. Police said the brother’s family lived on the second floor.

Initial enquiries suggested marital discord since the COVID-19 pandemic, police said. Police said the father ran a clothing businessman in Shahpur Jat. Neighbours said they were shocked and described the family as well-regarding locally. "They are very nice people. This is the first time such an incident has happened in our neighbourhood in all the years weve lived here,\" said Jitender Singh.

Jitender Singh also said the male members were away at work during the incident. Police said they needed the mother’s statement to establish the sequence of events. Investigators said evidence from the scene and medical findings would guide the next steps. Police said the woman’s condition remained critical at the hospital on Friday.
