Kharge Compares Assam CM Sarma to Cat, Slams BJP for PCC Chief Attack

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP-led Assam government of attacking the state PCC chief and compared CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to a cat. He highlighted that the first Bharat Jodo Yatra faced no such incidents in BJP-ruled states or even in Nagpur, the RSS headquarters.

Kaliabor, Assam - Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam is afraid of the success of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and attacked the state PCC chief without any reason. Kharge made these remarks while addressing a rally in Nagaon district as part of the yatra.

Kharges Catty Remark: Assam CM Sarma Compared to Feline

BJP's Fear of Bharat Jodo Yatra

Kharge highlighted that the party's first Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022-23 had passed through several BJP-ruled states without any incidents of stone-pelting or threats. He questioned why such an attack was happening in Assam and attributed it to the fear of the BJP.

Attack on Assam Congress Chief

Kharge condemned the attack on state Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah earlier in the day when his car was crossing a BJP program in Jamugurihat, Sonitpur. He asserted that the yatra's success had scared the BJP, leading to the attack on Borah.

Kharge's Criticism of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Kharge launched a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, referring to him as a "cat that meows at its owner." He recalled Sarma's roots in the Congress and accused him of abusing the party after joining the BJP. Kharge questioned Sarma's derogatory remarks against Dalits in a recent social media post and read out the English translation of the purported post.

Congress's Contribution to the Northeast

Kharge asserted that it was during Congress regimes at the Centre that states of the Northeast were given their due status. He contrasted the Congress's approach of uniting people with the BJP's attempts to divide them.

Kharge's remarks reflect the escalating tensions between the Congress and the BJP in Assam, particularly in the context of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The allegations of attacks and derogatory remarks have added to the political discourse in the state.
