Main Accused Arrested in Murder of DM's Driver's Daughter Following Police Encounter

The Hathras police apprehended the main suspect in the murder of Kalpita Sharma after a confrontation on Thursday. Kalpita, a 24-year-old woman, was fatally shot near Sadar tehsil's gate earlier this month. The accused, Gulshan alias Lukka, who had a Rs 1 lakh bounty on his head, was injured in both legs during the encounter.

Police Encounter and Arrest

During the shootout, a constable named Prince also sustained injuries. Authorities recovered a stolen revolver, live and spent cartridges, and a motorcycle from Gulshan. The incident occurred on June 14 when Kalpita, daughter of Rakesh Kumar Sharma, was returning home with her mother from the market. As they neared the Sadar tehsil gate, assailants on a bullet motorcycle opened fire.

Following the tragic event, Rakesh Kumar Sharma filed a complaint at Hathras Gate police station. In response, Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha formed five teams to investigate the case. These included the Special Operations Group (SOG) and a surveillance unit. Three suspects were arrested earlier, but Gulshan remained elusive until now.

Efforts to Capture the Suspect

The Additional Director General of Police for Agra Zone announced a reward for Gulshan's capture. On Thursday, a joint team from SOG and Hathras Gate police intercepted him on the Mathura-Bareilly highway near Ahbaranpur Road. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, both Gulshan and Constable Prince were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

SP Sinha confirmed that all four accused in this case have been apprehended. He stated that a charge sheet will soon be filed in court under relevant legal sections. This development marks significant progress in resolving the case and bringing justice for Kalpita Sharma's family.
