Maharashtra Government Launches Sambhaji Maharaj Song Award Honouring V D Savarkar's Composition
Maharashtra's Cultural Affairs Minister, Ashish Shelar, recently revealed the creation of an award dedicated to inspirational songs in honour of Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The first recipient will be a song by Hindutva icon V D Savarkar. This announcement was made during Shelar's visit to the Port of Marseilles in France, a location associated with Savarkar.

The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Rajya Prerna Geet Award, as it is named, will include a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a commemorative memento. The award aims to annually celebrate exceptional inspirational songs, according to Shelar. The inaugural award will recognise Savarkar's song "Anadi Me, Anant Me" for its significant patriotic influence.
Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's Legacy
Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was not only a warrior but also a scholar and writer in Sanskrit. He authored works such as "Budhbhushana," among others. This award serves as a tribute to his literary contributions and the enduring power of poetry during difficult periods, Shelar noted.
Savarkar's song "Anadi Me, Anant Me" was penned during his imprisonment when he attempted to flee British custody in Marseilles. The song's patriotic essence led to its unanimous selection for this year's award, according to the minister.
Award Selection and Presentation
The award process will be managed by a committee led by the Minister of Cultural Affairs. It will be presented to poets or their relatives or institutions that preserve their literary heritage, Shelar explained. However, the state government has yet to announce who will accept the award on behalf of Savarkar's composition.
This initiative not only honours Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's legacy but also highlights the inspirational role of poetry in society. By recognising such works, the award aims to inspire future generations through the power of words and patriotism.
