Maharashtra Election 2024: Table Turned Around In Devlali Constituency, Rajashri Ahirrao Leading The Battle
The Devalali constituency in Nashik is witnessing a significant electoral battle in the Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024. This region holds importance for the Grand Alliance. In 2019, Saroj Ahire from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won here. Currently aligned with Ajit Pawar's faction, Ahire is contesting again. Competing against him are Yogesh Gholap from Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena and Rajashri Ahirrao from the Shiv Sena Shinde group.
Ahirrao, a former tehsildar, has been actively campaigning across more than fifty villages in Deolali. Her experience in local governance is resonating well with voters. The response from women and youth has been notably positive, suggesting a challenging contest ahead. Her party currently boasts 2,84,299 voters in the constituency.

Shiv Sena's Influence and Internal Dynamics
Nashik district has traditionally been a stronghold for Shiv Sena. In 2019, nine of its MLAs emerged victorious here. However, after the party split, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's faction launched a campaign against Uddhav Thackeray's group. Many Shiv Sena officials in Devalali have joined Shinde's camp.
Despite multiple aspirants from both factions of Shiv Sena, Rajashri Ahirrao secured the nomination from Shinde's group. Meanwhile, former MLA Gholap represents Thackeray's faction. Reports suggest discontent among other aspirants within Thackeray's camp over this decision.
Support and Challenges for Ahirrao
Ahirrao is anticipated to receive substantial backing from the BJP. In previous elections, Saroj Ahire achieved a significant lead in areas like Deolali Camp town and Darna belt. However, this time around, Sharad Pawar's group's Shivswaraj Yatra did not reach these villages.
With 90% of voters residing in rural areas within Deolali assembly constituency, there seems to be dissatisfaction with NCP's neglect of these regions. It is believed that these disgruntled voters might turn towards Ahirrao when casting their votes.
Strategic Advantages for Ahirrao
Ahirrao's deep understanding of rural issues stems from her tenure as a tehsildar. Post-Shiv Sena split, the influence of Shinde’s faction has grown here. Supporters highlight Shiv Sena’s connection with villages and development projects by Mahayuti government as advantages for Ahirrao.
Additionally, there is speculation that timely support from guardian minister Dada Bhuse could secure a significant vote share for her campaign.
The political landscape in Devalali remains dynamic with various factors influencing voter sentiment. As election day approaches, candidates continue to rally support amidst shifting alliances and local concerns.
