Maharashtra CM Orders Demolition Of Drug-Linked Pubs In Pune
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has instructed Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar to take stringent measures against illegal pubs and demolish structures violating building regulations. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) in Mumbai stated that Shinde urged the police to act decisively against drug peddlers to transform Pune into a drug-free city.
A recent video, allegedly from Liquid Leisure Lounge (L3) on Fergusson College Road, showed youths with a substance resembling drugs, bringing pubs in Pune under scrutiny. Following this, Shinde directed the police to use bulldozers on illegal constructions linked to narcotics.

Renewed Action Against Drug Peddlers
The CMO's statement highlighted that strict action should be taken against illegal pubs to eradicate drugs from Pune. The CM instructed officials to target drug sellers and demolish illegal pubs and structures flouting building norms. This directive aims to curb the drug menace in the state's second-largest city.
A police investigation into the viral video led to the arrest of eight individuals, including an event organiser. Additionally, the excise department detained six waiters from L3 for allegedly violating liquor stock regulations. These arrests are part of a broader crackdown on illegal activities associated with pubs.
Suspension of Police Officers
In connection with the case, an inspector, an assistant inspector, and two beat marshals from Shivajinagar police station have been suspended. They were on night duty when the incident occurred. This suspension is part of efforts to ensure accountability within the police force.
Meanwhile, Dhiraj Ghate, president of BJP's Pune unit, stated that his party would not permit pub culture to thrive in Pune, known for its educational and IT hubs. Ghate called on the police, Pune Municipal Corporation, and state excise department to take firm actions against pub culture.
Political Reactions
Ravindra Dhangekar, Congress MLA from Kasba constituency in Pune, alleged that a significant amount of drugs was available in the city. He claimed that this trade continued with police complicity. These allegations add another layer of complexity to the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related issues in Pune.
The Chief Minister's directives come amid growing concerns about drug use in Pune's nightlife scene. By targeting illegal establishments and enforcing strict regulations, authorities aim to create a safer environment for residents.
Efforts are being made to ensure that Pune remains a hub for education and IT industries without being overshadowed by illegal activities. The actions taken by law enforcement and government officials reflect a commitment to maintaining public safety and order in the city.
