Maharashtra Assembly Polls 2024: The List Of Constituencies That AIMIM Aims To Contest
The Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has set its sights on contesting 27 seats in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
The party has chosen not to join the Opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), citing dissatisfaction with the lack of fair representation for Muslim candidates. However, AIMIM may refrain from fielding its own candidates if the MVA allocates tickets to Muslim candidates in the constituencies it is targeting, according to Shahid Rangoonwala, president of AIMIM's Vidarbha unit, told The Times of India.

In the Lok Sabha elections, AIMIM did not field candidates, which indirectly helped the Congress. "Our goal is to foster Muslim leadership. We're not just asking for tickets; we want the Congress, NCP(SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT) to ensure that their parties genuinely support and help Muslim candidates win elections," Rangoonwala explained to the English daily.
Rangoonwala also noted that parties are nominating candidates from other communities in constituencies with a significant Muslim population. He specifically mentioned that the Congress is reluctant to allocate Nagpur Central to a Muslim candidate, prompting AIMIM to consider fielding its own contender.
