Mahakumbh 2025: Why 'Anaj Wale Baba' Is The Talk of the Town

Amarjeet, widely known as Anaaj Wale Baba, is creating a buzz at the Maha Kumbh Mela with his unique environmental message. A resident of Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh, Baba has become a focal point of attention for growing crops like wheat, millet, gram, and peas on his head. For the past five years, he has used this unconventional method to raise awareness about environmental protection.

Hatha Yogi Amarjeet Baba shared that his effort symbolizes peace and the urgent need to preserve greenery amidst rampant deforestation. "I decided to do this after witnessing the devastating effects of tree-cutting on our world," Baba explained. Wherever he goes, he encourages people to plant more greenery, emphasizing the importance of a sustainable environment. To maintain the crops on his head, Baba regularly waters them, a sight that leaves visitors both curious and inspired.

Currently observing Kalpavas near Kila Ghat, Anaaj Wale Baba has become the highlight of the fair. Visitors marvel at his dedication and often wonder how he manages to grow crops on his head. After the Kumbh Mela, Baba plans to return to Sonbhadra, continuing his mission to promote greenery and peace.

Adding to the spiritual fervor, the largest Maha Yagya (sacred fire ritual) is set to take place at the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela. Organized by Jyotish Peethadheeshwara Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati, this ritual aims to honor 'Gau Mata' (Mother Cow) as India's national mother and eradicate cow slaughter practices.

This grand yagna will involve 1,100 priests performing daily rituals for an entire month, making it the most significant yagna camp at the Mela. Held once every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh, which begins on January 13 and ends on February 26 in Prayagraj, is expected to draw over 45 crore devotees. Pilgrims will converge at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers to take a holy dip, believed to cleanse sins and grant moksha.

Anaaj Wale Baba's unique initiative and the Maha Kumbh's grand spiritual events together highlight the convergence of environmental awareness and divine devotion at one of the world's largest religious gatherings.
