Mahakumbh 2025: Content Creator Dressed Up Like Sheikh Beaten By Sadhus, Video Goes Viral

A video capturing a man dressed as an Arabic sheikh at Mahakumbh has stirred discussions online. The content creator, attending the event in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, faced confrontation from sadhus due to his attire. The viral clip shows him wandering the mela in traditional Arabic clothing, sparking curiosity and eventually leading to an altercation.

The video begins with the man, identified as Sheikh Premanand from Rajasthan, strolling through the mela alongside two companions. Initially, onlookers appear intrigued by his thobe-a long robe commonly worn by men in the Arabian Peninsula. However, tensions rise when some sadhus approach him, culminating in a physical confrontation.

Social Media Reactions

Reactions on social media were mixed. One user questioned the necessity of such actions, while another emphasised the importance of respecting cultural attire and traditions to avoid misunderstandings. Some expressed their frustration with angry emojis or comments like "smh" (shake my head), highlighting their disapproval of using cultural symbols for social media attention.

The thobe, also known as thawb, is a traditional garment that reaches ankle-length and is predominantly worn by men in Gulf countries. It is typically white and paired with a keffiyeh and agal to secure the headgear. This attire symbolises cultural identity and holds significant meaning within Arabian communities.

An X user shared the video with a caption stating, "A content creator roaming around dressed as an Arab sheikh in MahaKumbh, later people caught him and beat him up badly (sic)." This incident follows another viral event at Mahakumbh involving a woman dubbed 'Mona Lisa,' who was harassed after gaining online fame.

Such incidents highlight the potential consequences of misrepresenting cultural symbols. While some individuals might view these acts as harmless or humorous, they can lead to misunderstandings or even harm when cultural sensitivities are overlooked.
