Maha Kumbh 2025: How Fire Dept Is Using Tech To Ensure Fire Safety At Mela

Preparations are underway for the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, set to occur from January 13 to February 26. This significant event, held every 12 years, is expected to draw a massive number of devotees. Rituals like the special Ganga Aarti are being rehearsed at Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers meet.

Ensuring Safety with Technology

The administration has introduced technological advancements alongside personnel deployment to ensure safety during the Maha Kumbh. ADG Fire Padmaja Chauhan stated that manpower has been increased and Quick Response Vehicles have been deployed. These include all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), firefighting robots, and fire mist bikes.

The district administration has also established new fire stations and deployed 365 vehicles to respond swiftly in case of fire emergencies. Officials are conducting awareness campaigns and mock drills to educate people on handling minor fire incidents without panic. "We have informed the officers to go to the tents, spread awareness and carry out mock drills," said ADG Fire Padmaja Chauhan.

Innovative Ticketing System

In a bid to simplify ticketing during the event, North Central Railway's Prayagraj division has launched a modern initiative. Railway staff will wear green jackets with QR codes on their backs at key locations. Pilgrims can scan these codes with their phones to download the UTS mobile app for booking unreserved tickets.

This digital initiative aims to reduce crowding at railway stations by allowing pilgrims to purchase tickets easily through digital payment options. The system promises a hassle-free experience for millions attending the Maha Kumbh. It aligns with Digital India's vision by offering technological convenience.

Firefighting boats are also being introduced and will be ready within a week. These boats will use river water to extinguish fires in restaurants or platoon bridges if needed. "Firefighting boats have been introduced and are expected to reach here within a week," added Chauhan.

Key Rituals and Celebrations

The Maha Kumbh's main bathing rituals, known as Shahi Snan or royal baths, are scheduled for January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami). These rituals hold great spiritual significance for devotees attending this grand event.

Railway personnel will assist pilgrims not only at platforms but also at other important locations. They will guide them in using the UTS app for ticket bookings and exploring additional features. This move enhances pilgrims' experience at this large spiritual gathering.

The integration of technology into safety measures ensures a secure environment for attendees. The combination of traditional practices with modern solutions reflects an effort to make Maha Kumbh both divine and digitally empowered while ensuring comfort for all participants.
