Jhabua village punishment video: Police arrest four after woman publicly humiliated

Police in Jhabua district, Madhya Pradesh, arrested four people after a video showed a 32-year-old woman publicly humiliated as punishment over an alleged extramarital affair. Officers said the incident occurred on 12 April in the Kakanwani police station area. A case has been registered against 10, and those who filmed and shared the video may also be charged.

Police in Madhya Pradesh said a 32-year-old woman was publicly tonsured and made to carry her husband on her shoulders. The act was shown as punishment for an alleged extramarital affair. The incident took place in the tribal-dominated Jhabua district. Four people were arrested after videos appeared on social media, an official said.

The incident happened on the night of April 12 in a village under Kakanwani police station. "We have registered a case against 10 people and arrested four persons including the victims husband, said Additional Superintendent of Police Pratipal Singh Mahobia.\" Police said the case was filed after the videos circulated online.

Investigators said they are checking who recorded and shared the clips. \"Those who shot the videos and circulated them on social media will also be made accused, he told.\" Police did not share further names in the initial update. The officer said more action may follow as evidence is reviewed.

Jhabua district incident: Community meeting and alleged punishment

Police said the woman was married 12 years ago and has two sons. The woman told police the woman left the husband by choice. The woman went with a lover after alleged harassment. The woman also reported beatings by the father-in-law, according to the complaint.

After that, members of the woman’s community held a meeting, police said. The group allegedly directed the woman to return to the husband. When the woman came back, the complaint said the woman was abused. The complaint added the clothes were torn, the head was shaved, and the woman was paraded.

Police said the woman was forced to carry the husband around the village. The case has been registered against 10 people, officials said. Four arrests have been made so far, including the husband. Police said further probe is underway, and they are collecting statements and digital evidence.
