Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2023: Who Are The Richest And Poorest Candidates In The Fray?
A recent report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Madhya Pradesh Election Watch has shed light on the financial status of the state's 230 sitting MLAs. Among these legislators, a substantial 186 are classified as crorepaties, or individuals with assets exceeding one crore rupees. Furthermore, 107 of these crorepati MLAs belong to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The analysis conducted by ADR and Madhya Pradesh Election Watch delved into the criminal, financial, and other background details of all 230 sitting MLAs. The report underscores that an overwhelming 81 percent of the outgoing assembly's legislators are crorepaties.

It further reveals that out of the 129 BJP MLAs, 107 (83 percent) possess assets valued at more than one crore rupees. In the case of Congress, 76 out of 97 MLAs (78 percent) are also crorepati legislators, as are all three independent MLAs.
The report indicates that the average assets per sitting MLA in Madhya Pradesh stand at Rs 10.76 crore.

The average assets for BJP MLAs are Rs 9.89 crore, while Congress MLAs possess an average of Rs 11.98 crore. Additionally, one BSP MLA is found to have assets worth Rs 96.95 lakh, and the three Independent MLAs possess an average of Rs 11.98 crores in assets. Furthermore, the report highlights that 38 MLAs have declared liabilities exceeding Rs 1 crore. Notably, Congress Betul MLA Nilay Vinod Daga, with assets valued at Rs 127.6 crore, bears liabilities worth Rs 54 crore. Additionally, BJP MLA Bhupendra Singh from Khurai has a high income, with an Income Tax Return (ITR) declaration of Rs 97.63 lakh.
