Lokpal: SC unhappy with outcome of meeting attended by CJI, PM
New Delhi, July 26: The Supreme Court on Tuesday called 'unsatisfactory' a report filed by the Central Government after the July 19 meeting of the Lokpal selection committee. The meeting also comprised the Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India.
A Bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi told Attorney General, K K Venugopal that the affidavit of the Centre was not satisfactory and it had refrained from giving a timeline on the appointment of a Lokpal.
The high-power committee had met to constitute the search committee, which will shortlist names for Lokpal and other members and then recommend them to selection committee for final approval.
The Bench had on July 17 expressed optimism that the committee would be constituted and a time frame would be laid down for shortlisting the names. The search committee was not formed and neither was a time frame given, the Bench said.
