The Asianet News 'Mood of the Nation' survey paints a vivid picture of the current political landscape in India, highlighting the preferences, perceptions, and concerns of the electorate as the country gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The survey, conducted across various digital platforms in multiple languages, received an overwhelming response, indicating the keen interest and engagement of the Indian populace in the electoral process.

One of the key findings of the survey is the strong advantage enjoyed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition. A staggering 79% of respondents expressed a preference for a party-led NDA government over the INDIA alliance, signaling a significant vote of confidence in the ruling coalition. This overwhelming support for the NDA underscores the formidable position of the BJP and its allies as they head into the electoral fray.

A crucial aspect of the survey is the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emerged as the top choice for the Prime Minister's post among respondents. With 51.06% of the vote, Modi enjoys a substantial lead over his nearest rival, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who garnered 46.45% of the vote. However, it is noteworthy that Rahul Gandhi's support is particularly strong in Kerala, where he secured 50.59% of the vote, indicating a regional variation in leadership preferences.

The survey also delved into the impact of key policy decisions on the BJP's electoral prospects. The Narendra Modi government's decision to notify the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rules emerged as a significant factor, with 51.1% of respondents believing that it would positively impact the BJP's election prospects. In contrast, 26.85% of respondents felt that the decision would have a negative impact, while 22.03% believed that it would have no impact. This finding suggests that while the CAA remains a contentious issue, a significant portion of the electorate sees it as a positive move by the government.

Another critical aspect of the survey is the shift in the electorate's priorities, with a clear emphasis on development over other factors such as caste dynamics, candidate profiles, or freebies. An overwhelming 80.5% of respondents stated that development would be the primary factor influencing their vote, indicating a maturing of the electorate and a move away from traditional vote-bank politics.

Infrastructure development emerged as a key area of appreciation for the Modi government, with 38.11% of respondents lauding its efforts in this regard. The government's Digital India initiative also garnered significant support, with 26.41% of respondents voting for it as a major achievement. Additionally, 11.46% of respondents highlighted the government's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) push as a significant accomplishment, reflecting the broad range of initiatives undertaken by the government.

The survey also touched upon regional dynamics, highlighting the different priorities and perceptions across various states. For example, in the Hindi heartland, 30.04% of respondents cited the fulfilment of the Ram Mandir promise as the Modi government's biggest achievement, indicating the importance of cultural and religious issues in these states. Similarly, in Tamil Nadu, 41.79% of respondents expressed concerns about price rise, reflecting the specific economic challenges faced by the state.
