Lok Sabha Election Predictions For West Bengal: Can BJP Outperform TMC? Check Latest Opinion Poll Result

West Bengal has become a focal point for the BJP's political ambitions. Historically, the saffron party wasn't considered a major player in the state until 2019.

The decline of the Left parties paved the way for the BJP's emergence in Bengal. The political landscape shifted significantly during the 2019 general elections, surprising many observers.

However, the BJP couldn't sustain its momentum and didn't replicate its success in the 2021 assembly elections. Several leaders who had joined the party in 2019 subsequently returned to the TMC. Now, the question arises: Can the BJP replicate its 2019 performance?

According to the ABP-CVoter Opinion poll, the NDA is projected to secure 20 seats, two more than its 2019 tally. On the other hand, the INDIA bloc, including the TMC, is expected to clinch 22 seats. West Bengal boasts a total of 42 Lok Sabha constituencies.

However, the TMC and Congress have not formed an alliance in West Bengal. The TMC is forecasted to secure 20 seats, while the Congress is expected to win just 2.

The BJP, having won only two seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, is now targeting the TMC over the Sandekhali issue. The survey suggests that the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) could significantly impact the electoral landscape, particularly in areas with sizable populations of Matua, Dalit Bengali Hindus, and Scheduled Caste groups who migrated from Bangladesh. The Matua community, comprising Hindu refugees from Bangladesh, holds considerable sway in West Bengal's politics.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister and her party have accused the BJP-led Centre of withholding funds owed to West Bengal under schemes such as the 'PM Awas Yojana' and the '100 days' scheme', amounting to Rs 1.74 lakh crore. They argue that this financial hindrance is impeding the state's governance.

It's worth noting that Bengal ranks third in terms of Lok Sabha seats, with 42 constituencies, trailing behind Uttar Pradesh with 80 and Maharashtra with 48.
