Lok Sabha Election 2024: Arvinder Singh Lovely Joins BJP At Party Headquarters In Delhi
Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely has joined by BJP at the party headquarters in Delhi. The announcement was made from the BJP headquarters in Delhi.
Notably, the step to align him with the BJP comes days after he resigned from Congress, as reported by ANI.

Earlier, at the time of resignation, Arvinder Singh Lovely, who resigned from the post of the Delhi Congress chief on Sunday, said he is not joining any other political party. However, this new development turns the table in a different direction ahead of the Delhi Lok Sabha Election.
His statement came amid speculations that he might join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Delhi. Amid the rumours, Lovely clarified that he has resigned from the post of Delhi Congress chief and not the party. "I have only resigned as Delhi Congress chief and I am not joining any political party," said lovely, as reported by PTI.
Further, Congress ex-MLA Asif Mohammad Khan claimed that the BJP would field Lovely from the East Delhi constituency, replacing Harsh Malhotra. " I can say this, in the place of Harsh Malhotra, Lovely will be declared candidate within one or two days...," he told reporters on Sunday.
Reacting to the claims, Lovely said, "I thank [AAP leader] Saurabh Bharadwaj for his wishes. I think he makes the decisions on behalf of other parties. I have clearly said that I have resigned from the post of Delhi Congress chief."
Lovely Resigns from Delhi Congress Chief Role Over AAP Alliance
- Lovely's resignation as Delhi Congress chief was attributed to the alliance with the AAP, seen as a setback to the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections.
- The decision to form an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was made by the party high command, despite opposition from the Delhi Congress unit.
- In his resignation letter to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Lovely highlighted that the Delhi Congress opposed aligning with a party he believed was founded on false corruption charges against the Congress.
- Despite corruption charges leading to half of the party's cabinet ministers being in jail, the Congress proceeded with an alliance with the AAP in Delhi.
- Lovely and others respected the party's decision, including visiting Arvind Kejriwal's residence on the night of his arrest, despite personal opposition.
- Lovely stated that his resignation reflected the dismay of Congress workers, who felt their ideals from the past seven to eight years were compromised.
- At a subsequent press conference, Lovely clarified that his resignation was solely from the position of Delhi Congress chief, not due to discontent over ticket distribution for the Lok Sabha polls.
- Despite contesting the Lok Sabha polls together, Lovely emphasized that the Congress and its workers did not provide a clean chit to AAP or credit them for building schools and hospitals.
