Bangalore, May 16: The results of the 2014 Lok Sabha election were declared on May 16. The NDA swept the elections, winning 334 of the 543 seats.

Modi said first time since Independence, a non Congress government has achieved majority in Lok Sabha. "Ours is a party that has fought Congress and believed in patriotism and it has been able to secure blessings of people," he said.

6.10 pm: BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi arrives in Vadodara, addresses the crowd. Modi said that he was here to thank all the people of Vadodara who voted for him. "After filing nomination, I have been able to give Vadodara barely 50 minutes and you have given me 5.7 lakh votes," he said.

He said that 'I salute the people of Vadodara. Nobody has ever achieved such a huge victory margin in LS polls.'

4.45 pm: We have broken all records in UP and BJP has won or is leading in 73 of the 80 seats, says Amit Shah.

4.35 PM: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi addressed the media today and said that he was responsible for the party's defeat. "I hold myself responsible for this defeat," says Congress VP Rahul Gandhi. Meanwhile Sonia Gandhi said: "I take full responsibility of the defeat suffered as I am the President of the party."

Sonia said: "We hope that the new govt will not compromise on the country's unity."

4.18 pm: Putting up a brave face, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal today said that 'he was disappointed with the results in Delhi.' "I am surprised to see AAP doing well in Punjab, but am disappointed with Delhi.'

He added and said that this was the first time they had contested elections and he was greatful to the people of Varanasi. He however congratulated Modi on his victory: "I congratulate Modi for winning from Varanasi."
