'Log Galat Matlab Nikalenge': Sunny Deol Reacts To Loan Default Of Rs 56 Cr, House Auction

Amidst a heated debate regarding the Bank of Baroda's retraction of the auction notice for 'Sunny Villa', Bollywood actor and Bharatiya Janata Party MP, Sunny Deol, stated on Tuesday that these were his "personal affairs."

"I prefer not to make a statement. These matters are of a personal nature. Anything I say could be misinterpreted," Sunny Deol conveyed to the news agency ANI.

The state-owned bank had initially put up Deol's Juhu mansion for auction on Sunday, as the actor had defaulted on a loan of Rs 55.99 crore due since December 2022. However, the bank later revoked the notice on Monday, citing "technical grounds."

Notably, Sunny Deol, whose recent film 'Gaddar 2' has achieved significant box office success by amassing over Rs 400 crore in a week, was the primary borrower of the loan. His brother, Vijay Singh Deol, also known as Bobby Deol, and their father, Dharmendra Deol, had acted as loan guarantors, as stated in the notice. Additionally, Sunny Sounds Pvt Ltd had served as the corporate guarantor for the mortgage.

In an official statement, the bank provided two reasons for retracting the notice: "Firstly, the notice did not specify the exact amount of dues to be recovered. Secondly, the sale notice was grounded in a symbolic taking of possession of the property, as outlined in Rule 8(6) of The Security Interest (Enforcement) Rules 2002."

The statement further added, "An application was submitted to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on August 1, 2023, seeking physical possession on behalf of the Bank. This application is awaiting approval. Given that the property is operational, as reported by the borrower, we will proceed with sale proceedings as per the provisions of the SARFAESI Act, once physical possession is secured."

The bank also noted that Deol had approached them to settle outstanding dues in accordance with the sale notice released on August 20.

'Sunny Villa' has been a part of the Deol family for five decades, housing the Sunny Super Sound recording studio, Sunny Deol's office, a preview theatre, and two post-production suites.
